The Lee Town Council met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 1 at 7 p.m., at Kinsey Hall. The agenda only had four items for discussion: review utility account receivables, review current inventory, take home truck for Public Works Director and a new door for Lee Town Hall. Per the instruction of their auditor, the council members reviewed their inactive accounts from 2009-2015 on their accounts receivables. They wrote off accounts from 2009-2014 with the exception of two that they thought they could collect. The accounts wrote off as uncollectible amounted to $3,244. They plan on trying to collect on the 10 inactive accounts from 2015. The council members reviewed their inventory list and decided to wait two weeks before making changes to give the town more time to look for items.
Town Manager John Anderson approached the council about allowing Public Works Director Hakili Washington to drive their older truck back and forth from his home in Greenville to work in Lee. The council agreed to this providing that Washington keep a mileage log, drive only to work and back and allow no one else in the vehicle. Anderson also asked for permission to replace the front door of Town Hall. The door is hard to open and is not handicap accessible. He received an estimate for $2,635.31 to replace the door and make it handicap accessible. The council voted for Anderson to get two more estimates and choose the best one. He cannot exceed $3,000. The Lee Town Council held the first public hearing concerning the proposed tax rate on Thursday, September 3 at 6 p.m. The second public hearing will be on Monday, September 14 at 6 p.m. at Kinsey Hall. The next regular Lee Town Council meeting will be October 6 at 7 p.m., at Kinsey Hall. All concerned citizens are invited to attend the meetings.
