On Tuesday, Sept. 19, the Kraft brand announced a voluntary recall of about 83,800 cases of their Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices, shipped to a limited number of customers. This recall was due to the fact that a temporary issue was discovered on one of the company’s wrapping machines, making it so that a thin layer of plastic remained on the cheese after the wrapper was taken off. This sheet of plastic could cause a potential choking hazard, proven after six complaints were filed saying the remaining plastic had caused choking or gagging to the consumers. However, no serious injuries or issues have been reported.
Consumers who purchased these items should not consume them, but rather return them to the store to receive an exchange or a refund. Kraft-Heinz can be contacted from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling 1 (800) 280-8252 to confirm whether or not a purchased product is part of the brand’s recalled batches and to receive reimbursement for the cheese.
Products included in the recall include 16 oz. Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with an individual package UPC of 0 2100061526 1 and a “Best When Used By” date of Jan. 10, 2024 through Jan. 27, 2024. Individual packages that are part of the recall will have an S and 72 in the manufacturing code. Also included in the company’s recall are 3 lb. multipacks of Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with a carton UPC of 0 2100060491 3 and a “Best When Used By” date of Jan. 9, 2024 through Jan. 13 and 16, 2024.
