Madison County Sheriff David Harper reports that during the early morning hours of Monday, May 10, at 1:11 a.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Communications Center received information from Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office regarding a suspect wanted for kidnapping and other felony charges from Alabama, possibly being in Quitman, Ga., traveling southbound on US 221 towards Madison County.
The suspect was driving a stolen silver Mitsubishi, and the kidnapped victim was present with the suspect in the vehicle. The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Iziquel Pashenz Vang and believed to be armed and dangerous, with a stolen handgun.
The case soon initiated a multi-agency effort involving the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Brooks County Sheriff’s Office, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Morven Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Madison and Hamilton Correctional Institutions' canine units to apprehend the suspect and ensure the safe return of the kidnapped victim.
At 1:29 a.m., Brooks County Sheriff’s Office units advised they were in pursuit of said vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed south on US 221, at or near the Jefferson/Madison County line with shots fired. The pursuit ended with the suspect crashing the stolen Mitsubishi on US Highway 90, west of Greenville. The kidnapped victim was recovered safely, but the suspect fled on foot.
Canine units from Madison and Hamilton Correctional Institutions, along with multiple deputies and officers, tracked the suspect through heavily wooded areas, where the suspect was ultimately taken into custody at 4:47 a.m. without further incident. Vang is currently being held with no bond in the Madison County Jail.
“This individual was, without a doubt, a threat to the public,” said Madison County Sheriff David Harper. “His arrest was possible because there are men and women who choose to put service to others above themselves. I am proud of the collaborative effort of all the agencies involved in the apprehension but more importantly the safe recovery of the kidnapping victim.”
Vang is facing charges for fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, kidnapping and false imprisonment, out of county warrant, grand theft of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failure to remain at the scene of the crash, resisting arrest and driving while license suspended with knowledge.
