National Beta members from James Madison Preparatory High School (JMPHS) recently participated in the Georgia Regional Leadership Summit, held at Great Wolf Lodge in LaGrange, Ga. The event brought together Beta students from multiple states for three days of leadership development, collaboration and fun. In addition to attending workshops and team-building activities, students had the chance to enjoy the resorts waterparks and connect with other Beta members across the region.
During the summit, students listened to a powerful keynote speaker, Kelly Barnes, who spoke on the “butterfly effect,” reminding members that even small actions can create lasting positive change. Inspired by that message, JMPHS Beta members presented their own project idea, a plan to establish Care Closets across Florida schools where students in need can easily access food, clothing and hygiene products without guilt or stigma. The project was born from an understanding of the high poverty rates and recent hurricane impacts affecting many Florida communities, including Madison County, and reflects the club’s dedication to compassion and service.
Along with the project proposal, JMPHS Beta students competed in “Beta Blitz,” where members were given the opportunity to showcase their artistic talent through designing t-shirts, trading pins and other merchandise that encompassed the Summit’s theme: Plug into Leadership. The design featured a fun, hand-drawn visual of Iron Man to represent the innovation and strength of all Beta members.
JMPHS’s commitment to service and leadership was recognized when the school received the Outstanding Leadership School Award, honoring their creativity, teamwork and dedication to making a difference.
“This experience has been essential for our students. They enjoyed honing their skills in creative thinking and problem solving, as well as working together as a team. We feel so fortunate to be able to take our students to these conferences and conventions to showcase their talents,” said Mandy Bergeron, JMPHS Beta sponsor.
The JMPHS Beta club, consisting of 40 members, participated in numerous community and school events each year. The club also awards annual scholarships for seniors within the baccalaureate program and appreciates the community’s continuous support for its fundraising efforts.
With more than 500,000 active members and 14,000 clubs nationwide, the National Beta Club remains the nation’s largest independent non-profit educational youth organization, promoting the ideals of academic achievement, characters, service and leadership among students.
