Jewell Benton Wimberly passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the age of 99. Born Sept. 23, 1925, Jewell was the beloved daughter of Charles Herbert Benton and Eula Lee Benton. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 68 years, William Robert Wimberly, II (Mr. Bill), and by her siblings: Pat Benton, Mary Workman and Jack Benton.
Jewell was a source of love, kindness and strength for her family. Guided by a deep, unwavering Christian faith and devotion to Jesus Christ, Jewell consistently demonstrated spiritual strength and compassion. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing and guiding them with grace, wisdom and steadfast prayer. Jewell lived her faith daily, embodying Proverbs 31:25-26: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue."
Jewell was actively involved in both Cherry Lake Baptist Church and Beulah Baptist Church, where she served faithfully and joyfully, exemplifying the virtues of a devoted servant of Christ.
Jewell is survived by her son, William Scott (Kathy) Wimberly, and her daughter, Ruth Wimberly McHargue. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Michael Scott (Jenny) McHargue, Robert Scott Wimberly and Melissa McHargue (Dana) Rogers; great-grandchildren: Madison McHargue, Macey McHargue and Liam Keahey; niece, Drinda Taylor; nephew, Claude Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jewell's gentle spirit and caring heart touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of warmth, kindness and unwavering faith that will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
A visitation was held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 3, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m., at Beulah Baptist Church, in Nankin, Ga. Graveside services immediately followed at Old Columbia Cemetery. Casual dress was welcomed to honor Jewell’s humble and approachable spirit.
