On Tuesday, Feb. 24, James Madison Preparatory High School (JMPHS) proudly hosted its annual BETA Club Induction Ceremony, celebrating the new members academic excellence, leadership, character and service.
The ceremony was called to order by BETA Club President Hailey Waldo. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jamescia Hills, followed by opening remarks from BETA Sponsor Mandy Bergeron.

The traditional candle lighting ceremony, representing each fundamental belief of BETA. Members Maliyah Hakwins, JaZiyah Livingston and Irma Aguilar-Garcia lit the red, white and blue candles, symbolizing the club’s commitment to upholding true American values. Members Shelby Johnson and Brayden Wells lit the the black and gold candles, which symbolize seriousness, dignity, warmth, friendship and faithfulness.
The four pillars of BETA, achievement, character, leadership and service, were explained by Addison Bass, Eyleen Aguilar-Garcia, Aria Johnson and Hailey Waldo.

The BETA Pledge was recited by the inductees, followed by the lighting of candles for the newest members, led by Ke’Andre Dobson and Addison Taylor. New BETA members lit each other’s candles, symbolizing the unity of the club.
Closing remarks were delivered by Principal Mark Akerman, and the ceremony concluded with the final adjournment from President Waldo.
