During this time between the primary elections and the general election, folks are reminded that it is against the law to steal, vandalize or otherwise deface campaign signs. The signs are considered personal property and stealing them is against Section 812.014 of the Florida Statutes, which criminalizes theft.
Those seeking political office are reminded they should obtain permission from property owners before placing signs on private property. In addition, political campaign signs may not be placed on any state, county or city rights of way. Signs placed on a state, county or city right of way may be picked up by appropriate staff, and disposed of in a maintenance yard. Each candidate is responsible for making a good faith effort to remove all of his/her signs within 30 days of his/her withdrawal as a candidate, being eliminated as a candidate or being elected to office.
Early voting for the General Election begins on Saturday, Oct. 21, and will continue until Saturday, Oct. 31. Election Day for the General Election will be Tuesday, Nov. 3.
