A new Christmas tradition is coming alive at the Smith Mansion in Madison, and everyone is invited to enjoy this year’s festivities. Chef Art Smith, who purchased the mansion from North Florida Community College earlier this year, will host a reception and Holiday Cookie Bake-off on Sunday, Dec. 13 from 2 – 4 p.m. Local community members have beautifully decorated the mansion, and lots of fun activities are planned for the afternoon. Local students including the Madison Academy Chorus, Jazz Ensemble and Bell Ringers will provide special music. Children will have the opportunity to visit with Santa and take an old-fashioned horse and buggy ride. NFCC President John Grosskopf will present the key to the mansion to Chef Art to kick off the festivities. The highlight for the afternoon will be the Chef Art Smith Holiday Cookie Bake-off. Chef Art has competed on major cooking shows, and in his view, every baker is a winner. He is inviting bakers from the age of six and older to submit cookies for the bake-off. All entries will be served during the reception and a panel of judges will select a top baker in the junior division (ages six – 12) and the teen/adult division (ages 13 and older). The winner of the junior division will be awarded a $500 savings bond, while the winner of the teen/adult division will receive $500 cash. Rules for the Holiday Cookie Bake-off are simple and as follows: Each participant must submit two-dozen cookies of the same recipe. Cookies can be dropped off at the Smith Mansion between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 or between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. Cookies will not be accepted after the cut-off time. No peanuts or peanut products may be used in the cookies you submit. Register in advance by visiting www.surveymonkey.com/r/P6ZSXTK or stop by A Main Street Realty to complete an entry form. All cookie entry registration forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Dec. 10. Those ages six to 12 are considered junior bakers and ages 13 and older are considered teen/adult bakers.
