On Sunday, May 16, at approximately 1:50 p.m., law enforcement and paramedics arrived at the scene of a hit-and-run crash that resulted in two motorcyclists being hospitalized with serious injuries. According to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, the incident occurred near the exit ramp of I-10 westbound and SR 53.
The motorcycle was driven by a 63-year-old male, carrying a 66-year-old female passenger, both from Monticello. They were traveling westbound on the inside lane, when an unknown vehicle with an unknown driver and unknown passengers attempted to change lanes, causing their right rear tire to strike the front tire of the motorcycle.
The collision caused the motorcycle to topple over and slide 221 feet to a final resting point on the concrete bridge. Both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected and sustained multiple serious injuries. They were transported to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and their next of kin were notified of their condition.
It is unknown if the vehicle that struck the motorcycle saw them in the lane. The driver left the scene, and there is currently no known information on the other vehicle involved. To call in a tip or notify FHP of any known information, contact Corporal PJ Shaw at (850) 518-5748.
