One of the more heartbreaking aspects of the loss of Jamarion “Muscle” Benton, the young Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboy football player who was shot and killed just weeks before the season began, is the fact that an infant will now grow up without a father. Although no amount of money could ever replace such a loss, efforts are being made to at least mitigate some of the difficulty stemming from the tragic event.
The Madison County Athletic Boosters is in the process of raising money that will be used for a scholarship for the child. Funds raised through the beginning of October will be put into a pre-paid college account at North Florida College, with the child being named as the beneficiary.
During the Cowboys’ opening game on Friday, Aug. 21, t-shirts honoring Benton were sold with proceeds going toward the scholarship fund. After the game, MCHS Head Football Coach Price Harris told the team that several hundred dollars had been raised already.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to this cause is asked to make the donation through the Madison County Athletic Boosters at MCHS, with the donation specified for the Jamarion Benton Scholarship Fund.
