On Friday, April 18, Hanners and Gunnar Webb were fishing off the coast of Keaton Beach when their boat struck a submerged bouy. The impact threw Hanners out of the boat and the boat’s propeller struck both his legs, causing serious injuries.
Hanners was transported to the hospital and the surgical procedures performed to save his legs have been successful. Hanners has made progress, but still faces an arduous recovery process, with extensive physical therapy ahead.
In order to help Hanners and his family during this difficult time, aside from the benefit raffle, a fund has also been set up at Madison County Community Bank. Anyone wishing to donate may make a donation to the Luke Hanners Fund. Madison County Community Bank is located at 301 E. Base St., in Madison.
