On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Lee Town Council met, with Jr. Odom asking the council for permission to use Lee City Hall for a HAM radio event on Saturday, Nov. 12. “We want to get more people interested in HAM radio,” said Odom. “This will also be an occasion where people can sell or swap equipment.” Food will also be available at the event, which is scheduled to begin in the morning. No exact time has been set. The council unanimously approved Odom's request.
In other new business, the council reviewed the Property Rights Element, which is now required by Florida Statutes to be included in the Town's Comprehensive Plan. There will be a public hearing held for this at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov.1, just before their monthly meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. They also discussed adding Juneteenth and Employee Appreciation Day to the 2023 holiday schedule. It was decided to table this discussion until a future meeting.
Finally, the council agreed to continue the prize amounts for the Lee Christmas Lighting Contest. First place is $50; second place receives $30, and third place wins $20. The dates for judging lights are still to be determined.
