On Friday, Aug. 28, the Mad Talkers Toastmasters met by Zoom for their fourth Friday session. As the meeting came to order, members were in for a treat as scheduled speaker Julius Hackett was "challenged" by Byron Poore to a spur-of-the-moment speaking duel.
Hackett was up to the challenge, giving a flawless speech on the benefits of modern technology used in vehicles to make driving safer. Poore was called upon to speak at the last minute, so he made use of his opportunity to have some good-hearted fun at Hackett's expense. His speech was centered around methods of identifying cowards. He insinuates throughout the speech that Hackett had been avoiding a head-to-head contest with him out of fear. Poore concluded the speech with an effective PowerPoint demonstration to illustrate his major points.
As the dust settled around these two gladiators of fine speech, the votes were cast, leaving the two men in a fitting tie for best speech honors.
The Toastmasters meet at 12 p.m., every second and fourth Friday of each month, via Zoom. If you are interested in joining a future meeting, contact Julius Hackett or Byron Poore through their personal Facebook pages.
