Emerald Greene, owner of Greene Publishing, Inc. has been named the 2025 Florida Farm Bureau Newsperson of the Year. This announcement was made at the organization’s state annual meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort.
A Madison County native, Greene owns the Madison County Carrier, Monticello News, and Riverbend News, serving readers across Madison, Jefferson, Suwannee, Hamilton and Lafayette Counties. Each paper is printed weekly and maintains a daily online presence. She also publishes the Front Porch magazine, which is released six times a year.
Greene has served the last two years as chairman of the board for the Florida Press Association and currently serves as past chair, in addition to serving on the Florida Press Foundation Board, the Florida Advertising and Media Executives Board and the Madison County Chamber of Commerce Board.
The Newsperson of the Year award is presented to a reporter, editor or broadcaster for their accurate coverage of production agriculture, Farm Bureau news and rural issues. The award is designed to support positive relationships between county Farm Bureaus and representatives of the news media. “I am honored to receive the Newsperson of the Year award, but this recognition truly belongs to our entire staff. I couldn’t do what I do without their hard work, incredible teamwork, dedication and commitment to sharing the stories of our farming community. I have so much respect for the farmers of our county and across our great nation. Farmers are the backbone of America — they grow the food that feeds us, the fiber that clothes us, and the fuel that keeps our homes, businesses and cars running. They are some of the hardest-working people I know, and we all owe them our support and gratitude every single day,” said Greene.
