Madison County was only forecast to receive about four to six inches of rainfall as an early-season tropical storm named Cristobal made his way through the Gulf of Mexico. In the end, some parts of Madison County received upwards of 12 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Although Madison County did receive rainfall on Saturday, June 6; the heaviest amount came on Sunday, June 7. According to the Suwannee River Water Management District, 12.59 inches were recorded at the Hopewell Tower on Sunday. Madison Blue Springs reported a total of 10.38 inches of rain on Sunday. There was a report of 11.75 inches of precipitation in the Town of Lee.
According to Madison County Emergency Director Leigh Basford, there were 14 weather-related vehicle accident calls, 20-23 trees down over roads and five roads were submerged. There was a trailer park on Corinth Road flooded with water breaching at least one home. By Sunday, crews from the Madison County Road Department and volunteer fire departments were busy clearing roadways.
Throughout the weekend, the Madison County Emergency Management Department was in contact with the National Weather Service and the Florida Division of Emergency Management for updates and any unmet needs within the county.
