State Attorney John Durrett has announced that a jury has found Christopher Gianino, Sr. guilty of Sexual Battery by a Person in Familial or Custodial Authority. With the verdict, Gianino faces a sentence of up to 30 years in the Department of Corrections. The Honorable Melissa Olin will formally sentence Gianino at a hearing scheduled in Madison County on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Gianino was found guilty of sexually battering a 12-year-old girl in August of 1997. Although the sexual abuse occurred roughly 25 years ago, it was not reported to law enforcement until December of 2021, after another female family member contacted law enforcement to report sexual abuse done to her by Gianino in 2013. During the trial, the jury heard from four different victims, including the victim that initially disclosed in December of 2021, all alleging they suffered similar sexual abuse by Gianino during various time periods between 2002-2015.
The case was investigated by Sergeant Marcus Holbrook of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Kathryn Land.
