In August of this year, Madison County native, Maria Gilbert, soon after celebrating her 39th birthday, found herself in the hospital. During the week she was hospitalized, she received a diagnosis no one would ever want to hear. Gilbert was informed she had stage four ovarian cancer. A regimen of chemotherapy was immediately begun and still continues.
The future, in terms of potential surgeries, or how many more rounds of treatment will be necessary, is uncertain. In addition to the medical uncertainty, the family is facing a very real financial uncertainty. Without adequate insurance, the cost of treatments and medical care have resulted in a heavy financial burden to the family.
In the hopes of helping to ease this financial burden, a raffle is planned with many valuable prizes up for grabs. The drawings will take place on Friday, Nov. 17. Tickets are $5 each, or five tickets can be purchased for $20. The growing list of prizes includes:
• A $300 gift certificate from A.S. Aesthetics
• A canvas painting from Marci Scanlan
• An RTIC cooler from North Florida Pharmacy
• From Pastures of Joy Farm, a half hog with processing for two winners
• From Pickles and Sons Welding, a custom grill with a wooden table top attached
• From Melissa Bowen at H and R Block, a $300 tax prep service
• A $300 gas gift card from AOK Electric
• From Cornerstone Cafe of Lee, a $25 gift certificate
• From Grumpy’s Diner, a $50 gift certificate
• and many, many more.
