When we began our weekly visits, I made an effort to avoid getting into “politics.” I generally try to keep things “light” here on the Sunny Side. It seems the more divisive we tend to get, the more important that seems to be. I have seen friendships fall apart over who is running for what office. That has always been very unfortunate in my book.
I completely understand people being passionate about their ideas and feelings. However, I think the line is crossed when personal insults begin to be hurled. Too often, insults are hurled at people that are not even known, so you really don’t know for sure if the insult is accurate or warranted. Case in point, when a sitting President calls me “garbage;” or when someone calls me “deplorable.” These people don’t know me, but they feel free to call me “garbage.” I have had people assume I am racist, simply because of the pigmentation of my skin. Isn’t that the very definition of racism?
