I have a confession to make. Lately, I have been on a bit of a “kick” to pass along little inspirational quotes, thoughts, etc. Nothing major or extremely profound, just little items that serve to remind us that we are better and stronger than we usually give ourselves credit. I think we all can use that every once in a while. I had the pleasure of having dinner with one of my favorite people in the world. She is an elderly lady who was a kindergarten teacher for many years. She said to me that one of her students once asked, “What do you do for work? Because every day, you just come play with us!” I don’t think it is by accident that she is into her 90s and still has that lovely sense of “play.” She recently shared some “words that inspire values that last.” I want to share some of them here, along with some others I found along the way.
• The past cannot be changed; the future is still in your power.
• If at first you do succeed, try something harder.
• You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink … unless you feed him salt.
• It’s hard to stay on top of things when you’re upside down.
• You never fail until you stop trying. You can’t finish until you start.
• When you make a mistake, admit it quickly. It normally disarms the situation.
• “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born … and the day you find out why.” - Mark Twain
• “Liberty means responsibility. That’s why most people dread it.” - George Bernard Shaw
• “Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.” Norman Cousins
• “Too many people spend money they earned to buy things they don’t want to impress people that they don’t like.” - Will Rogers
• “If a window of opportunity appears, don’t pull down the shade.” - Tom Peters
• “I know people that believe in ghosts, but don’t believe in themselves.” Mitch Hedberg
Just a few things to think about as you make your way down the Sunny Side this week.
