As many of you know, I spend a great deal of time with the big school athletic programs here in town. That really is one of my favorite parts of what I get to do here. Over the years, I have the good fortune to develop friendships with many of the student athletes. I love following their progress through their high school days, and beyond. I also enjoy developing friendships with the many mentors and coaches these young people encounter. Listening to and hearing the advice these coaches pass along often turns out to be worthwhile advice and lessons from which I can also learn.
One of those lessons has begun to echo in my mind with greater resonance lately. I have heard many times a coach telling players to “trust the process.” I have learned to apply that advice to my own life through several situations. Sometimes, when we are faced with something new, we may feel lost at times. That’s when it’s good to have faith in those folks who are more experienced. They can help you avoid many pitfalls they may have already encountered.
Trusting the process can be challenging at times. Often, we begin to feel we might have a better plan and we deviate from the path. That usually doesn’t go as well as we might have thought. Much better to “trust the process” and stick to the plan.
So as we make our way down the Sunny Side, don’t be afraid to trust those who come along to help guide us along the way. Often, especially during those times when everything seems uncertain, it’s worthwhile to take a step back and remind ourselves to simply “trust the process.” That will usually take us where we need to be.
