I have always been fascinated with people. Often, I am much more fascinated with fascinating people than with people in general, but sometimes people in general make me just watch and shake my head in utter bewilderment.
A couple of days ago, I found the need to go to a local grocery store. While I was perusing the aisles, I decided to check out the shelves where, under normal circumstances, one would find a variety of paper products, specifically toilet paper. Before I went down that aisle, I had a notion of what I was likely to find, but being the "cock-eyed optimist" that I am, I decided to take a look anyway. You can easily guess what I found. Nothing but empty shelves where toilet paper would normally be seen. This didn't surprise me. I have come to expect empty shelves that would otherwise be holding rolls of toilet paper. Of course, I expected to find a shortage of some household cleaners and supplies such as disinfectants and hand sanitizers. That is entirely understandable. There is a pretty bad virus floating around and disinfectants and hand sanitizers are a couple of pretty good weapons to use in the fight. Another set of shelves that were mysteriously empty were the shelves that would normally hold fresh eggs. This one still baffles me.
Why such a shortage of TP and eggs? I've seen very little in terms of the symptoms of this virus that would lead me to believe that anyone would need more TP than normal. Likewise, I have not seen anything that would lead me to believe that eggs have some previously unknown power to combat the current virus. I do know that eggs do have an expiration. Even when kept in the refrigerator, they do not last forever. I have a strong suspicion that there will be quite a few people who may be eating eggs that are beyond their expiration date in a couple of weeks. I bet those people will be glad they bought all that extra TP. Let's all stay safe, take care of one another, and try to find a reason to smile here on the sunny side.
