Those who know me, know this is my absolute favorite time of the year. The cooler weather, the “slightly” changing colors of some of the leaves (yeah, down here in Florida, we really don't have the dramatic fall colors on palm trees that occur on maples and aspen trees) and the evening smell of fires in fireplaces puts a certain warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart. Of course, during the time around Thanksgiving, I am reminded of all those things for which I am truly thankful.
I am rather hesitant to say “things” because it's really not the “things” that tend to fill my heart with gratitude. I admit, there was a time in my life when having fun “things” was more important than it probably should have been. Don't get me wrong, things can be cool and groovy and all; but things are temporary. It can be a rather rude lesson to learn just how temporary things can be and how empty one can feel when those “things” aren't there any more. Some people can be just as temporary as “things.” Both people and things can be superficial.
However, those people who are truly valuable will be around long after those “things” have gone away. I had a thought recently. In fact, just a few moments ago, so I decided to get it written before it died of loneliness. Who we have in our lives is of far more importance than what we have.
So, if you are reading this, then please consider yourself among those “Whos” for whom I am truly thankful. Of course, I say that with all due respect to the late Dr. Seuss and all the “Whos down in Whoville who loved Christmas a lot.” I pray that the Good Lord will fill your life with plenty of “Whos” who will fill your life with joy. I imagine, if you look closely, you will find that He already has.
Happy Thanksgiving from over here on the Sunny Side.
