At an early age, I developed a practice of thinking out loud. Some folks called it “talking to myself.” For some reason, this habit caused some concern among my parents. I think they may have thought I was crazy, even at an early age. I think it may have been a trait that was passed down from my grandmother. I remember when Mama Mae would sometimes be chattering away, with no one else in the room. I never saw anything wrong with that. I think it sometimes helps to clarify things in my mind when I can verbalize my thoughts out loud. One thing I have often heard is it’s okay to talk to yourself, but it might be a cause for concern when you begin to respond.
I often tell people one reason I sometimes talk to my self is that’s the only way I can carry on an intelligent conversation. Earlier this morning, this topic of conversation popped up (actually among other people, not just myself) and I said, “often when I talk to myself, even then I have trouble finding anyone who will listen.”
