It has been said that history often repeats itself. This past Friday, I found myself in a similar situation as I faced one November evening in 2019. The Madison County Cowboys had a Friday night off, which allowed me the opportunity to cover a game for the Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) Warriors. That fateful night in November of 2019 found me covering a game at ACA due to the Cowboys having that Friday night off. It was also the opening round of the playoffs for the Warriors, just as it was in 2019. As I entered the stadium, I saw a gentleman who had been present at the game in 2019. "I see you have returned to the scene of the crime," he said to me with a chuckle. My response was, "Yes, hopefully, this evening will end much differently." That evening in 2019 saw me leaving the stadium in an ambulance with a broken ankle. The result of a sideline collision with a pair of young, fast high school athletes.
Fortunately, my evening this past Friday did end with me leaving the stadium under my own power. I did have a couple of close calls during the contest which now makes me seriously reconsider future football games at ACA. I do enjoy games at ACA, but there does come a time when one should take note of certain things, such as potential injury and diminished reaction time.
