As I have made more and more trips around that big yellow ball of gas in the sky, I have come to realize that the only thing you can truly predict about life is that it will be unpredictable. One never really knows when the sun rises just what events will happen, some of which can bring great changes, by the time the sun sets each day. This realization hit me this morning when I heard of the passing of someone with whom I have worked. It seems one morning you are communicating and the next morning, they simply aren’t there.
All of this serves as a stark reminder that we should never take anything for granted. Nothing is ever promised except the fact that one day, hopefully far down the road, will be our last. I don’t say these things in an effort to be negative. In fact, my desire is that events such as this will serve as reminders for us to cherish each moment. We should tell those folks we love that we love them, and not put that off for another day. Never let an opportunity to make a new friend slip by us. Endeavor to make someone laugh (or at least roll their eyes) at some dumb joke every day. I think if we remember to do those things today, then when our final day does come around, we can look back and honestly say that we have lived a life that was truly worth living.
