I once heard someone say, “If you don’t like the weather around here, just wait 15 minutes.” These days, I think that is a very true statement. Over the past weekend, the temperatures were back up into the 80s. Then we had thunderstorms. Now, as I am typing this, temperatures are expected to drop down near the freezing point. But have no fear, I have heard that by the time you are reading this, the temps are supposed to again rise to near summertime levels.
The good news is, and I hope I don’t “jinx” anything, there has not been any mention of the “H” word for us. I don’t wish anything bad for anyone, and my heart does go out for those folks down in the Caribbean, but I think we have had our fair share of those storms to last us for a while. I’m glad this year has brought us a respite from that.
It’s funny how some people view certain types of weather as “good” and other types of weather as “bad.” A few weeks ago, I heard one of the football coaches saying, “I hope it does rain all night. [The other team] likes to throw the ball.” Well, the coach did get at least part of his wish. It did rain during almost the entirety of the game. While some people may not enjoy rainy days, ducks seem to take great pleasure in them. I do admit, I enjoy rainy nights, as long as I am inside, warm and dry.
I have come to the conclusion that the only thing you can really do about the weather is enjoy it. Contrary to what many people may try to tell us, we really don’t have the ability to alter the weather. The best thing to do about the weather is to try to be prepared. Keep an umbrella handy. But if you do happen to get caught in a sudden downpour, just wait a few minutes, it will surely change. I hope that, no matter what the weather may be, it’s always a good day, here on the “Sunny Side.”
