You probably remember me saying that I have already begun to enjoy Christmas music (my music, my headphones, my ears – don't judge me!). A few minutes ago, a song came on that made me stop and pause. The name of the song was “Angels Among Us,” and it really is a nice song, not just for Christmas. The chorus of the song speaks of angels being among us and coming around at the very time we need them.
As I have stated before, I am a firm believer in angels. I have had experiences and encounters that cannot be explained in any other way. Some of those experiences and encounters could easily be considered supernatural. Although I do believe in “supernatural” angels, I also believe angels can be everyday, ordinary people. They really are “among us.” They can be the friend who calls at just the right moment when you need to hear a friendly voice. They can be that “good Samaritan” who stops to help you change a tire on the side of the highway. They can be that one person who will just sit with you and listen in compassionate silence as you say nothing, because the words just won't come. They can be that one person with the courage to put on a red clown nose “out of the blue” just to elicit a laugh when one needs to be lifted “out of the blue.” As a line in the song says, “At the dark end of the road, someone comes along as a single ray of hope.”
An angel could be me; an angel could be you. It really doesn't take supernatural powers to be an angel. I think the primary prerequisite is a willingness to just be present and open to the idea of giving of yourself, in any way. God will take care of the timing. The best part is you don't have to wait until at least Thanksgiving to do it. I'll go ahead and start saying it now, “Happy Holidays” from over here on the sunny side.
