First of all, I do want to go on the record as saying that I really do enjoy my job. Probably one of the things I enjoy the most is going to various sporting events. It really doesn't matter which sport, I enjoy them all. That being said, football games have become a little bit of a physical challenge. After my “sideline incident” of close to two years ago, it has become more challenging on a purely physical level to make it through a football game. Thankfully, the players are nice enough to “share” some space on the bench so I'm able to sit down a little while to give my arthritic ankle some rest on occasion. Still, by the end of the any given game, it does get quite painful. I won't let that stop me though, if the kids can do their job and work through the pain, surely I can find a way to do the same.
At the end of the recent Homecoming game and all the extra walking I did during the game, I stumbled upon an idea (Thankfully, I am speaking in a strictly figurative manner and not literally). If I can somehow get a scooter to use during ball games, I could easily keep covering games for another 20 years or so. It would need to be one of those “all terrain” scooters, similar to those I've used in the grocery store before. It would need to have big tires and able to roll along the uneven ground around Boot Hill. Of course, it would HAVE to be painted maroon and silver. I think the star “MC” logo on the front would be kinda cool as well. (I have never pretended to be an “objective journalist” when it comes to the Cowboys, and I don't intend to.)
I'm not sure what my “dream scooter” would cost. I would easily imagine it would cost more than I could ever afford. I should start one of those “GoFundMe” campaigns to help fund it. I could call it, “The Mr. Rick Scooter Fund.” I wonder what kind of response I would get. In the meantime, I'll keep going on the sidelines of Boot Hill and beyond, following the Cowboys. At least I can use my camera's monopod as a walking stick for now. Still, I wonder if I can talk the Sheriff's Deputies into a ride to my car at the end of the game tonight?
