Looking for a farmers’ market closer to home? Greenville is getting a fresh boost this fall with the launch of the Greenville Fresh Farmers Market hosted every second and fourth Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., in front of the Greenville Grocery Store building located at 1344 SW Grand St. Organized by the Town of Greenville in partnership with DSR Public Health Foundation, V&B Farms and Seed Time Harvest, the market will feature seasonal produce from local farmers, games and activities for the family and an opportunity to connect with your neighbors.
The motivation to start a farmers market came from the lack of fresh food and grocery store access to the residents in Greenville. The farmers market is only part of a much larger mission, to improve public health outcomes through innovative approaches with a focus on youth and families. With support from the Town of Greenville, DSR Public Health Foundation has been nourishing the Greenville community for over four years, offering youth health mentorship programs, providing health screenings, serving summer meals to children under 18 and hosting community health events.
The next milestone is to open the community-rooted Greenville Grocery Store. Sharing this vision and passion for growth, V&B Farms has partnered with DSR Public Health Foundation bringing years of farming experience, produce wholesale and market knowledge. With their support, the store will feature fresh, local foods, as well as curate a space where producers and makers can bring their goods to the community. Food establishes a community, enterprise follows and health will flourish. The Greenville Grocery Store will foster opportunities to attract business and families and in turn establish healthy resources.
The farmers market is just a building block to greater things for the Greenville community. The next farmers market will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will be a football theme event, with music and fun, so wear your favorite team colors and/or jerseys.
