Madison County UF/IFAS Extension Agent Beth Moore recently announced that registration for the Fourth Annual Chick Chain 4-H project is now open to all 4-H members age five through 18. During the program, youngsters raise baby chicks into mature production pullets. Along the way, they learn valuable skills such as responsibility, the ethical treatment of animals, biosecurity, record keeping and communication. T
he youth will register their project and raise their chicks for approximately 20 weeks. There will be workshops to help them learn how to care for their chicks/hens, complete project books and participate in a show during the month of October in the fall.
All participants and parents will be required to attend an orientation meeting on Monday, Feb. 27, at 5:30 p.m., at the Madison County Extension Office, located at 184 NW College Loop, in Madison. At this meeting, important information about raising the chicks, completing record/project books and building a brooder and coop will be talked about. The deadline for registration is Monday, Feb. 27. Each participant will be required to purchase their own chicks. If anyone has any questions about this, or any other Madison County 4-H project, they are encouraged to contact Moore at (850) 973-4138 or visit https://www.loc8nearme.com/florida/madison/madison-county-extension/7127567/
