On Tuesday, March 17, voters of Madison County will head to the polls.
One of several things that Madison County residents will be voting on is whether the Madison County School Superintendent should be appointed, by the School Board members, or whether the Superintendent should be voted on by the Madison County voters.
The wording on the ballot says: "Shall the Superintendent of Schools of Madison County, Florida be appointed by the School Board of Madison County, Florida?
Yes for approval; No for rejection
I encourage everyone to vote No!!!
Voting is an important right in our democracy because it gives us some collective say in how we want to be governed and who gets to make the big decisions that affect our community, and in this case, our school system. By voting, you improve your chances of getting a representative that actually represents you, your values and your interests.
Sure, you had a hand in electing that one school board member who represents your district. But, by voting yes on this referendum, you are relinquishing your vote/opinion/choice to only five people in this entire county.
I, for one, do not want five people in this entire county, to make a choice that affects all of our county, all of our schools, and all of our children; and in all actuality, it would only need to be three people to make that choice. It would only take a vote of 3-2 to elect our new school superintendent. - - - Three people to make the choice of what 11,588 (registered voters in Madison County) should have the right to do!
I encourage each and every one of you … get out and vote. Early voting starts this Saturday and runs through Saturday, March 14. Polls open Tuesday, March 17 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please also note that voters can vote ANYWHERE in the county; not just their designated polling place. Presidential candidates, Greenville council elections, Greenville charter amendments, and the appointed superintendent position are all on the ballots.
If you care about your future and want the best things for your friends, your family, other people, and the environment, you should vote in every election.
And vote "NO" for the Appointed Superintendent of Schools.
