In the early morning hours of Thursday, Feb. 23, firefighters from several local firefighting agencies responded to a multi-unit dwelling that was fully engulfed in flames. According to Madison County Fire Chief, Allen Clayton, firefighters responded to a 5:59 a.m. call about the fire in the Lantana area of Lee, Fla. In addition to units from Madison County Fire Rescue (MCFR), the Lee Volunteer Fire Department and Madison Fire Department also responded. In addition, mutual aid was provided by Suwannee County and Hamilton County firefighters. Firefighters battled the blaze for two hours and 45 minutes before it was extinguished.
According to Chief Clayton, the estimated damage was approximately $134,000. There was one minor injury reported, due to smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
