During the 81st Annual Farm Bureau Banquet, local veterinarian Dr. John Lewis was honored for his decades of service to local farmers and ranchers.
After graduating from high school in his native Jefferson County, Dr. Lewis attended North Florida Junior College before transferring to the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University. He practiced for a short time in North Georgia, before coming to Madison in July of 1979. He has been caring for Madison County animals, both large and small, since then. He also works alongside Dr. Darren Baxley, Dr. Harley Williams and Dr. Carrie Lee Baxley at his Madison Veterinary Clinic.
Dr. Lewis and his wife, Mary Alice, live in Madison and have three grown sons.
