The alumni of Suwannee River Junior College and Madison County Training School are holding a fundraising campaign to help with the restoration of the historic property. The property, located on Martin Luther King Drive, in Madison, was the site of education for African-American students from the 1920s until segregation was ended. After that time, it became the site of Madison Middle School until its closing in 2001. Since that time, the buildings have been abandoned and have fallen into disrepair. Efforts are under way to restore the site into an educational and cultural center for the entire community.
An ambitious effort to raise a total of $100,000 by March 21, 2026 is underway. Anyone wishing to donate to this effort can send a check or money order, made payable to Madison County Recreation Association, to Betty Johnson 2405 NE Daylily Ave., Madison Fla. 32340. Be sure to reference “Restoration Fundraiser” in the memo section. Donations are tax deductible, as allowed by law.
