It was a tough game for the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls varsity softball team on Tuesday, April 7. The Cowgirls were hosting the Panthers of St. John Paul II Catholic School, from Tallahassee. The Cowgirls built a 3-0 lead after three innings, then managed to hold the Panthers at bay after they put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 win. With the win, the Cowgirls improved their record to 11-2 on the season.
Gracelynn Newsome had one hit in two at-bats, with one run batted in (RBI). Tahj Dobson, Ryleigh Bass, and AnnaKayte Smith also had hits for the Cowgirls.
Alden Bass went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for the Cowgirls, giving up six hits, two earned runs and one walk. She added 14 strikeouts to her growing list of “Ks” for the season.
The Cowgirls will finish their regular season at home on Tuesday, April 21, when they will host the Seminoles of Florida High. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m., at Cowgirl Field, on Boot Hill.
