It was an exciting home opener for the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowgirls on Tuesday, March 3, when they faced the Eagles of North Florida Christian School, from Tallahassee. The Cowgirls went out to an early lead, bringing in two runs in the bottom half of the third inning. That lead didn’t last long when the Eagles responded with three runs in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Alyssa Meyer crossed home plate to give the Cowgirls a 4-3 lead. In the top of the seventh inning, with two outs and the tying run on third base, Alden Bass chalked up another strike-out to seal the Cowgirls’ third straight win of the season.
Logan Bass went one-for-three at the plate, with one run-batted-in (RBI). AnnaKayte Smith picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly. Kylee Hutto, Lexi Eads, Ryleigh Bass and Alden Bass also had hits for the Cowgirls.
Alden Bass went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for the Cowgirls, giving up three hits, three earned runs and five walks. She also added 13 strike-outs to her growing list of “Ks.”
The Cowgirls will return to Cowgirl Field on Boothill on Thursday, March 12, when they face the Bulldogs of Suwannee High School. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
