On Friday, Feb. 20, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys varsity baseball team hosted the Bears of Dixie County High School at Cowboy Field. At the end of four innings, the Cowboys found themselves in a 2-1 deficit. Then, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cowboys mounted a four-run rally to take a 5-2 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cowboys added three more insurance runs and held the Bears at bay during the top half of the seventh inning to secure an 8-2 victory.
Dalton McNutt made the most of his one hit in three at-bats, with three runs batted in (RBIs). Micah Newman went one-for-three at the plate, with one RBI. Collin Copeland had one hit in two trips to the batter’s box, with one RBI. Alden Richie also had a base hit for the Cowboys.
McNutt picked up the win on the pitcher’s mound for the Cowboys, giving up one hit, one earned run and five walks, striking out six batters. Brett Harper came in to relieve McNutt in the final inning, giving up one hit and no earned runs.
The Cowboys will be back at home on Friday, March 13, when they host the Hornets of Cottondale High School, from Cottondale, Fla. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., at Cowboy Field.
