It was a back and forth game on Wednesday, Aug. 27, when the Madison County High School (MCHS) junior varsity Cowboys hosted the Trojans of Lincoln High School, from Tallahassee. In the end, the Cowboys were defeated by a score of 27-16.
The Cowboys took the early lead with a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion. The score was 8-0, in favor of the Cowboys, with 5:34 remaining in the opening quarter. The Trojans responded quickly and tightened the score to 8-7 at the 2:06 mark of the first quarter. The Trojans took the lead with a field goal, putting the score at 10-8, with 7:10 remaining on the game clock before halftime. The Cowboys would regain a 16-10 lead in the waning seconds of the first half, taking that lead into halftime. At the 6:06 mark of the third quarter, the Trojans regained the lead in the see-saw battle, putting the score at 17-16. The Trojans would continue to pad their lead with another touchdown with 1:17 remaining in the third quarter. In the closing moments of the game, the Trojans tacked on another field goal to bring the score to 27-16, with 1:37 still to play in the contest.
The final junior varsity game of their season is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m., at Boot Hill Stadium.
