It turned out to be a tough evening for the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys as they traveled to Lake City, Fla., on Friday, Sept. 4. The Cowboys were facing a familiar rival in the Tigers of Columbia High School. Despite a late-game rally, the Cowboys suffered their first defeat of the 2026 season when they fell to the Tigers, 27-13.
The game started as a defensive struggle. The Tigers began the contest on offense at their own 10-yard line. The Tigers moved to the 27-yard line before their drive stalled. The Cowboys took over at their own 34-yard line. The Cowboys' opening drive moved to the 45-yard line before stopping. The Tigers' offense was back on the wet field at their own 20-yard line. From that point, each team traded three-and-out possessions. The first quarter ended with the Cowboys in possession of the pigskin at the Tigers' 40-yard line.
