Prior to their game against the Indians of Chiefland High School on Thursday, April 9, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys varsity baseball team took time to salute the seniors on the team. After the Senior Night ceremonies were concluded, the Cowboys took on the Indians. It was a tough evening for the Cowboys as the Indians went out to an early four- run lead in the top of the first inning. The Indians padded their lead with two more runs in the third inning before the Cowboys got on the scoreboard with one run in the bottom half of the fourth inning. The Cowboys cut into the Indians’ lead with another run in the fifth inning. However, the Indians tacked on one more run in the sixth inning and then held on to finish the game with a 7-2 final score.
Dalton McNutt went two-for- four, with one run batted in (RBI). Fellow senior Jake Murphy had one hit in his four trips into the batter’s box, with one RBI. Brady Thomas, Micah Jenkins, Kannon Plain and Collin Copeland also had hits for the Cowboys.
Copeland, Russel Cruz- Velasquez and Jenkins all spent time on the pitcher’s mound for the Cowboys, giving up seven earned runs, eight hits and eight walks. The Cowboy pitchers managed to strike out six batters.
The Cowboys are set to finish the regular season at home on Wednesday, April 15, when they will take on the Trojans of Hamilton County High School. The first pitch is slated for 7 p.m., at Cowboy Field, on Boot Hill.
