The Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys did more on Friday, Oct. 14, than just win their Homecoming game. By defeating the Hornets of Lafayette High School, the Cowboys became district champs for Class 1A District 5. The Cowboys have accomplished this by way of an undefeated record throughout the district..
The first district game was on Friday, Sept. 23 at Boot Hill when the Cowboys defeated Bell High School by a score of 45-0. Then came an away game on Friday, Sept. 30, against Jefferson County Middle/High School, which the Cowboys won in an impressive fashion by a score of 62-6. The next game was on Saturday, Oct. 8, in Jasper, which was another one sided Cowboy victory, 58-0. That brought the Cowboys back home to Boot Hill where they defeated the Hornets of Lafayette High School by a score of 55-7.
The Cowboys have two more regular season games on their schedule. This Friday, Oct. 21, the Cowboys take on long time rival, the Taylor County High School Bulldogs, at Boot Hill Stadium. Then on Friday, Nov. 4, the Cowboys finish their regular schedule with a home game against Baker County High School. Both remaining games will have a 7:30 p.m. kick off.
It is still yet to be determined who the Cowboys will face in the playoffs. One thing is certain, the final trail to Orlando has started right here in Madison.
