Madison County High School (MCHS) senior Blaydon Plain has made it official that he will trade his maroon and silver for orange and blue after he graduates this spring. On Friday, Nov. 12, during a ceremony in the MCHS library, Plain signed his official letter of intent to play baseball for the University of Florida Gators after his high school career is finished. Plain received an offer from the University of Florida during his sophomore season at MCHS.
“I've seen the work you've put in,” said MCHS Head Baseball Coach Jason Fletcher. “This right here is the reward for all the work you've put in; not only on the baseball diamond, but more importantly, in the classroom as well.”
During his two seasons with the Cowboys (including the shortened season in 2020) Plain had a .375 batting average with 27 runs batted in (RBIs) and six home runs. On the mound, Plain gave up just five hits with no earned runs, seven strike-outs and three walks. Plain held opposing batters to a mere .172 batting average.
Plain played one season at the IMG Academy, in Bradenton during 2020-21. During that season, Plain had a .233 batting average with eight RBIs.
According to Plain's mother, the Gators are looking to utilize Plain as a pitcher, although his hitting ability is somewhat rare among pitchers.
Plain said he plans to study some form of health science, although his exact major is still undecided. He said he will leave in June to begin classes during the summer of 2021. He is the son of Jack and Helen Plain.
