The issue of county funding has become a topic of discussion since the Florida Legislature decided to put the question of property tax elimination in front of Florida voters in November. Should the proposed amendment pass, it would have an impact on Madison County’s budget.
In an effort to inform voters and citizens, Madison County Clerk of Courts and County Comptroller Billy Washington will be making a pair of presentations on the budgetary process for the county, how the county budget works, what county services could be potentially impacted by an elimination of property taxes and more. These presentations will not advocate for either side of the issue. Instead, they will be strictly informative. There will also be a time for questions and answers.
The presentations will take place on Monday, June 15, and Thursday, June 18, at 6 p.m., each evening. They will be conducted in the meeting room of the Madison County Courthouse Annex, located at 229 SW Pinckney St., in Madison. Washington plans to host another presentation later in July, on a date and time still to be determined.
