Greene Publishing, Inc. recently received calls from concerned citizens about the recent sale of the City’s ladder fire truck to Madison County Fire Rescue for $75,000. Callers were worried that the price tag was unreasonably low.
After investigating the matter thoroughly, Greene Publishing, Inc. discovered that the truck in question was purchased in the late 1990s through the combined efforts of the City, Madison County and Norh Florida Community College (now North Florida College).
Three sources within the City and Madison County confirmed that the $75,000 selling price was appropriate. According to City Manager Stanford Amos, the price will cover the City’s insurance and maintenance expenses on the vehicle.
Due to the age of the truck, none of the Madison County Carrier’s available sources could verify the exact amount originally paid by each of the purchasers.
