According to the Madison Fire Department wooden building was completely destroyed on Tuesday, Dec. 2 after a fire broke out and quickly overtook the structure. The blaze was reported at 11:24 a.m., prompting a swift response from Madison Fire Department, Madison County Fire and Rescue, Lee Volunteer Fire Department and Madison Police Department.
Firefighters arrived at the building, with flames breaching the roof and heavy smoke drifting across the area. Despite the intensity of the fire, no injuries were reported, according to Madison Fire Department.
The building, owned by John Lewis, was supposedly used for storage. As of press time, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Investigators are continuing to assess the scene, reviewing potential ignition sources and speaking with witnesses to determine how the blaze began.
Residents in the area noted the thick smoke was visible from several blocks away around lunchtime, though firefighters were able to keep the flames contained to the single building.
