Madison County Sheriff David Harper reports that on Friday May 15, at approximately 11:47 a.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Communication Center received a 911 call reporting that a shooting had just occurred at a residence on SW Brookwood Avenue near the intersection of SW Franklin Street. The caller reported that a burgundy truck pulled into the yard and a verbal altercation occurred between the occupant of the truck and individuals in the yard. The driver of the truck exited the vehicle armed with a handgun and began shooting at the persons in the yard. At least one individual shot back at the driver of the truck before he was able to flee the area in the truck. Multiple MCSO deputies and officers from the Madison Police Department arrived on scene and in the area to attempt to locate the truck driven by the suspected shooter. MCSO investigators also arrived to process the scene and collect evidence. Investigators determined that two vehicles parked in the yard had been struck by gunfire. A short time later, investigators learned that there was an adult male at the Madison County Memorial Hospital Emergency Room suffering from a non life-threatening gun shot wound to his leg. Multiple items of evidence have been collected including a projectile and numerous fired shell casings. Investigators have located the unoccupied truck that the suspected shooter was driving. Based on current information, investigators believe that the suspected shooter from the truck is no longer in Madison County. Investigators will continue to collect information on the positive identification and possible location of the shooter. Once this information is confirmed arrest warrants will be obtained. If anyone has any information, please contact the MCSO Communications Center at (850) 973-4001 ext. 1.
