When Deborah Kervin’s daughter, Amber Selman Le, lost her battle with cancer several months ago, Kervin wanted to do something in her daughter’s memory. Through the generosity of hundreds of people, money was raised to help cover Amber’s mounting medical expenses. When Amber passed away, there were still funds remaining, so Kervin decided to use those funds to start a non-profit organization called “Amber’s Rainbows.” The goal of Amber’s Rainbows is a simple one, to help people who need help, wherever and whatever that need might be.
The name “Amber’s Rainbows” has a double-meaning. One meaning comes from the fact that Amber loved rainbows. The other, deeper meaning is biblical. Many know the story of Noah and the flood and how God put a rainbow in the sky as a sign of His promises and as a sign of hope. For Amber’s Rainbows, they strive to spread that same sense of hope. Each act of help and kindness achieved through Amber’s Rainbows spreads a “rainbow” of hope to another person. That rainbow can be in the form of a ride to a doctor’s appointment. It can come in the form of a pair of crutches that one person no longer needs and given to one who has the need. It can be in the form of a monetary donation that will be used to help another.
Currently, Amber’s Rainbows is seeking gently used medical supplies that can be donated or loaned to someone else who may be in need. If you have any medical supplies or devices you are no longer using, please consider donating them to Amber’s Rainbows. Your generosity can be a rainbow of hope to another person in our community. All supplies will be kept in Lee, Fla.
