Mitch Rutherford, a recent Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboy graduate, has added his name to the list of Cowboy athletes who will be continuing their playing and academic careers at the next level. Rutherford, a shortstop and occasional right-handed pitcher for the Cowboys, signed to play baseball for Pensacola State College during a signing ceremony at MCHS on Tuesday, May 24.
This season, Rutherford proved himself to be one of the most dependable batters for the Cowboys. Rutherford had a .406 batting average and an on-base average of .512. Rutherford had 26 hits and 12 RBIs. Defensively, Rutherford had a near-perfect .980 fielding percentage, only committing one error in the 22 games he played this year. Rutherford also contributed to seven double-plays from his shortstop position. Rutherford plans to study business while at Pensacola State College. He is the son of Dan and Gina Rutherford.
