The Annual Community Thanksgiving Meal at the Senior Citizens Council is rapidly approaching, with the holiday right around the corner. Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, Nov. 23, and Timmy Dyke and his team of volunteers will be deboning turkeys and baking cornbread at Madison Church of God on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m.
At 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, volunteers will gather at the center to begin preparing dressing, sweet potato casserole, gravy and other holiday favorites. This year, the goal is to provide 1,000 plates of free meals. To accomplish this, the following items are still needed: 50 turkeys; 85 lb. of corn meal; 60 cans of chicken broth; 45 cans of cream of chicken soup; 20 gallons of milk; 800 desserts and many other miscellaneous items. Meals will be available for dine-in or takeout at 11 a.m.
For more information, call (850) 464-8107. “This is a golden opportunity to feed your neighbor,” said Dyke.
