On Saturday, Oct. 17, Hickory Grove Methodist Church will hold their 198th Anniversary Founders Day. It promises to be a fun day for the entire family. The fun starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. There will be entertainment and activities throughout the day. There will also be approximately 20 vendors with various arts and crafts, along with food to satisfy every taste. Be sure to come with your appetite so you can enjoy a country breakfast from Mary Lou’s Kitchen. There will also be boiled peanuts, catfish dinners and, of course, the famous Buchanan family chicken pileau.
Free parking will be available at 696 NE Hickory Grove Rd., with shuttle service provided throughout the day.
A central theme of this year’s celebration will be the “Circuit Riders.” These were ministers who would ride on horseback from church to church to preach and minister to parishioners during the 19th century. Some of these riders would travel as much as 1,000 miles over a six-week period.
This annual Founders Day celebration will be a great time to celebrate and honor the past while the church looks forward to its bicentennial.
